Muktinath Darshan

Muktinath is a sacred place for both Hindus and Buddhists, at 3750 m above sea level, in the Annapurna region of the Nepalese Himalayas. This place is a great example of how two religions can share the same holy spot with mutual respect. For Buddhists, Muktinath is a place of Dakinis (goddesses known as Sky Dancers). It is of great importance for Buddhists that Muktinath is one of the 24 Tantric places. For Hindus, beside the natural fire and the holy waters, the central meaning of the Muktinath area is the veneration of the god Vishnu in the form of ammonite's fossils. It is mentioned in the Puranas (300-1000 AD) that a stone with Chakra, or wheels-like marks, is God Vishnu himself. Those who worship this stone do not need to take another birth.
